Proper lawn overseeding is essential to maintaining a well manicured property. The best time to overseed in the valley is in the early Fall (late September to early October) for cool-season grasses and late spring for warm season grasses. Overseeding at these times promotes a higher success rate for germination, in establishing strong roots, and storing food needed for a head-start in the spring.

Falcon Landscapes starts the process by cutting your lawn short to admit more sunlight, water, and nutrients for new seedlings. Our crews utilize thatching and aeration tools to ensure good soil to seed contact. Finally, a premium blend of perennial rye seed is sown with a broadcast spreader for that spectacular winter lawn.

It is imperative for proper germination to water frequently for first two weeks in order to keep the soil moist. Then reduce frequency and increase duration to help form durable root systems.

It is recommended to delay the application of starter fertilizer for three weeks. If applied at seeding time, the fertilizer increases growth of existing grass, which may shade out new seedlings.

Do not use the pre-emergent weed control during overseeding. Pre-emergents stop ALL seeds from germinating, including grass seed as well as weeds.
